Behind the Scenes: Logan Lynn and Rian Lewis “Underground” Music Video – Stop Motion Animation by Adam Taylor (PHOTOS)

As you know, the pre-order for my new record went live this week and alongside it came the release of my new single, a collaboration with mega producer Rian Lewis (Gorillaz, Chromeo) called Underground. If you haven’t already, you can stream it FREE on Bandcamp HERE, Apple Music HERE, and Amazon Music HERE — and make it yours forever when you pre-order your copy of “My Movie Star”.

We will be releasing the Underground music video, a stop-motion animated short by Laika Studios-trained filmmaker and illustrator, Adam Taylor this July. Adam has been hard at work putting this thing together for months and I’m freaking out about how rad this vision turned out. Such a talented dude!

Premiere details coming soon! Here are some stills and behind-the-scenes photos from the Underground shoot to tide you over… Read the rest of this entry »

Breaking from my usual process, I wrote 19 new songs for My Movie Star by myself on the Steinway piano in my living room, then narrowed the tracklist down to 10 for the release. Unlike any of my previous work over the past 20 years, all of these tracks began with me streaming these initial writing sessions for all of you and my followers on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, live from my loft in Portland, Oregon.

I then took those Steinway Sessions live recordings offline and sent countless clips to this record’s co-Producer Jay Mohr for feedback and direction. This back-and-forth process — which mainly consisted of Jay telling me to quiet down and pushing me to be braver and more exposed — went on for most of 2016 while I was on the road promoting my last release, ADIEU

From there, I invited Portland-based piano genius (and T-Pain muse) GLASYS to come on board to build out the key parts and a few months later we locked ourselves in The Hallowed Halls with Justin Phelps (Amanda PalmerDresden DollsDead Kennedys) and Mike Blackburn (The Wild WarScars on 45Dungen) until My Movie Star was complete. Jay Mohr, who is also a writer on 2 of the songs, gets credit for inspiring the album as a whole.

My Movie Star will be released on October 12th, 2018 as a 2-disc set, alongside an album of all the songs reimagined by The Dandy Warhols, Tiffany (“I Think We’re Alone Now”), Jarryd James, Rian Lewis (Gorillaz, Chromeo), DoublePlusGood, Stose and many more of my favorite bands, artists and musical heroes.

It’s hard to believe I’ve been putting records out for the past 2 decades, but that’s what they tell me. To celebrate, I put together a 50 track retrospective playlist called “20 Years of Misses” on Spotify that spans all those years and several disastrous record deals.

This time machine is yours. No…OURS. Thank you all for still being here! I love you.

Paste Magazine Feature: Logan Lynn and Jay Mohr Collaborating with 80s Pop Icon Tiffany, The Dandy Warhols, Jarryd James and Others on New Album, “My Movie Star”

From Paste Magazine:

Portland, Oregon-based musician and producer Logan Lynn has recently completed work on a new record, titled My Movie Star, produced by actor/comedian Jay Mohr (Saturday Night Live, Jerry Maguire, Mohr Stories) and due out in 2018.

Today Lynn and Mohr announced that 80s pop icon Tiffany (“I Think We’re Alone Now”) has signed onto the project and will be collaborating with Lynn. The entire album is a collaboration with T-Pain muse GLASYS and features just Logan Lynn and a grand piano.

Breaking from his usual process, Logan wrote 19 new songs for My Movie Star by himself on the Steinway piano in his living room, then narrowed the tracklist down to 10 for the release. Unlike any of his previous work over the past 20 years, all of these tracks began with Lynn streaming his initial writing sessions live for his followers on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube from his loft in Portland, Oregon.
He then took those Steinway Sessions live recordings offline and sent countless clips to co-Producer Jay Mohr for feedback and direction. This back-and-forth process — which mainly consisted of Jay telling Logan to quiet down and pushing him to be braver and more exposed — went on for most of 2016 while Lynn was on the road promoting his last release, ADIEU

From there, Logan invited Portland-based piano genius (and T-Pain collaborator) GLASYS to come on board to build out the key parts and a few months later they locked themselves in The Hallowed Halls with Justin Phelps (Amanda PalmerDresden DollsDead Kennedys) and Mike Blackburn (The Wild WarScars on 45Dungen) until My Movie Star was complete. Lynn credits Jay Mohr, who is also a writer on 2 of the songs, for inspiring the album as a whole.

Logan Lynn and Jay Mohr are currently shopping the album to record labels, but My Movie Star will ultimately be released as a 2-disc set alongside an album of all the songs reimagined by The Dandy Warhols, Tiffany, Jarryd James, Rian Lewis, The Upsidedown, DoublePlusGood, Stose and many more of Logan’s favorite bands, artists and musical heroes. The release will be supported by a short film of the same name, 3 new music videos, as well as a double header tour with Logan Lynn alongside Jay Mohr and GLASYS in the works. Logan Lynn Announces Collaboration with “I Think We’re Alone Now” 80s Pop Icon Tiffany on Upcoming Album, “My Movie Star”

Logan Lynn and Tiffany (2017)

Ok, so…there have been a lot of exciting things happen over the past year, ranging from Jay Mohr producing my new record, to having people I adore like The Dandy Warhols, Jarryd James, Rian Lewis, The Upsidedown, DoublePlusGood, Stose and others sign onto the project by way of upcoming collaborations; but today I am completely freaking out.

When I was 8 years old, 80s pop phenom Tiffany‘s “I Think We’re Alone Now” found its way to my ears, my dancing feet, and my heart…which was hurting pretty badly at the time. Tiffany’s voice and songs were a lifeline for me back then, and I am so excited to announce that my original musical hero has also signed on to collaborate with me on a song for “My Movie Star”!!!

Tiffany Tweet about Logan Lynn Collaboration

The details are still top secret for now, but I could not possibly be happier about this if I tried. OH MY GOD. 🙂

Flufftronix Releases Remastered “Feed Me To The Wolves” Remix – Download FREE Here!

One of my favorite remixes of one of my songs is Flufftronix’s mix of “Feed Me To The Wolves” and it has been remastered and re-released by Fluffy himself. Download the remix for zero dollars HERE or click on the album cover below. Cool, huh?

From the Flufftronix Soundcloud page:

Recently I’ve been kind of rethinking my entire approach to making music, oddly enough around a quote from Cher, “If it doesn’t matter in five years, it doesn’t matter.” Music is more disposable now than it’s ever been; trying to make music that transcends flavor of the month should really be a major concern if you want to last past a few internet cycles.

I’ve been at this production thing for some now, always learning A TON as I go (for reallllll to the point that it always feels like I learn better ways to do almost anything I was doing differently 6 months ago).. and really for the most part not thinking in terms of longevity. But I think I have occasionally succeeded at it, even if by accident sometimes—case in point this remix from the Summer of 2009. I find I do my best work when I have a solid melody and harmony to work around.. which is also one of the main things I’m trying to improve on learning how to do myself in 2013.

ANYHOO I’ve been doing some mixing and mastering work lately, and know way more about this stuff now than I did in 2009.. let alone 2012! I was never really happy with my shoddy DIY master on this track, so I took some time this past weekend to fix it up. I didn’t go back into the mix—I’m a budy dude and I know this would have sucked me in!—but I did do some much more appropriate compression and limiting. Thanks, hope yall dig! -Michael / Fluff
