Back In The Studio…

Oops, I’m back in the studio, but this time with Belgian electronic pop producer Styrofoam, who I grew up listening to (and worshiping).

Don’t let that piano fool you. 💋

20 Years of “GLEE” (Part 1)

I was in the studio recording this (now out of print) album with PFog 20 years ago this weekend. It’s a mess, as were the mixtapes that had led to it, the record that came just after it, and the 2 EPs that followed…but, whatever. It was the 90s, I was a maladjusted teenager, and it was before easy-access technology swooped in to help 17 year old songwriters suck less on their own.

I actually got noticed by the industry way too early in my career and had to figure out how to not totally suck in real time while everyone watched me totally suck on very big stages that these super famous artists I had grown up worshiping had made space for me to join them on. But I wasn’t ready, and I wouldn’t really be ready for another decade.

I blazed forward anyway. I said yes to everything, disappointed everyone, kept writing, met the right people, met the wrong people, went on TV a bunch, continued doing very public things, failed, won, failed, won, failed, won, caused a scene in the circles I was supposed to impress, and slowly got better at all of it until one day in 2008 I woke up and just didn’t suck anymore…or, at least, it wasn’t as pronounced. (It’s also completely possible that I just started sucking in a totally new and different way when I quit drinking. I’m open to that, too.)

The point is, it doesn’t matter how much you suck as long as you scare the right people with your songs while you are still young and beautiful.

Logan Lynn on Tabloid Junk June 2014

I was interviewed by Australian pop culture blog Tabloid Junk this past week. We talked about love ending, new songs beginning, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Read the original (and watch my new video) HERE, or read the transcript from our chat below.

From Tabloid Junk: (6/20/2014)

Interview with Logan Lynn: His Music, His Career, And THAT Miley Cover!

“Former Logo Network “NewNowNext Music” host, and musician Logan Lynn stopped by to chat with TabloidJunk about his career, his new music video, and that Miley Cyrus cover that earned him a million views on YouTube, and coverage in New York Magazine.

TabloidJunk: Congrats on the new video man, how would you describe it?

Logan: Thank you! I think Runn Shayo, the filmmaker who made it, did a really great job capturing the spirit of our live shows and what it was like to be on the road last summer with my band. Stylistically, the video is a trip.

TabloidJunk: Was the footage of things like planes, traffic, and people random, or was it to convey life going on as normal around you tho he’s “Radio silent”?

Logan: Not random, no. Is anything ever random in the world though, really? All of those scenes you are mentioning were a mixture of clips from tour and regular life. It’s meant to be a snapshot of a specific moment in time — just like my songs are.

WATCH: Teaser Trailer for Accidental Bear’s Queer Music Summer Benefit Tour Documentary (VIDEO)

Logan Lynn LIVE in Portland - Mississippi Studios - July 11th 2013 - Photo by Wayne Bund Photography

A lovely and talented filmmaker and performance artist named Run Shayo has been flying all over the United States with us every step of the way this summer for our tour, capturing the good moments (and the ugly ones) as we go. He is making a documentary about our experience together on this queer music tour and it is going to be J.U.I.C.Y. when it’s all said and done. I trust this man’s vision wholeheartedly, and if you don’t already know his work, you soon will.

We are flying to New York City tonight for the grand finale at Webster Hall this Friday night. See you there!

Here’s a teaser trailer for the tour (and the film) by Run Shayo:

Logan Lynn Summer Tour Stories, Parts 1 and 2: San Francisco and Los Angeles! (PHOTOS)

Logan Lynn LIVE at Beatbox in San Francisco (2013)

I’m back in Portland for a few days midway through our summer tour and figured I would tell you things about the first leg of shows!

The tour kicked-off in San Francisco at Beatbox on Friday night and was great. I heard after the show that one of my all-time musical heroes Bob Mould had asked the tour organizer the day before what time I was performing and then he came to the show! So awesome.

Of course, this also means that Bob got to see me knock both of my bottles of water off of a stool and onto the stage during a song, where they began pouring out into a rat’s nest of wires surrounding me. In an act of quick-thinking, fancy footwork, I repurposed my green LaCoste face towels (which Gino and I use to keep the sweat from blinding us on stage) and used one foot to mop it up while I sang the opening of our next song. It was pretty special. Here’s to not getting publicly electrocuted on stage in SF!

Here are some photos from that show:

Thank you to Gino Mari and Michael Brillig for designing my live show and to Gino especially for being on the road with me and getting me from point A to point B every step of the way!

We’ll be in Portland on Thursday, Seattle on Sunday, and the grand finale in New York City on July 19th! See you again soon, California.
