Breaking from my usual process, I wrote 19 new songs for My Movie Star by myself on the Steinway piano in my living room, then narrowed the tracklist down to 10 for the release. Unlike any of my previous work over the past 20 years, all of these tracks began with me streaming these initial writing sessions for all of you and my followers on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, live from my loft in Portland, Oregon.

I then took those Steinway Sessions live recordings offline and sent countless clips to this record’s co-Producer Jay Mohr for feedback and direction. This back-and-forth process — which mainly consisted of Jay telling me to quiet down and pushing me to be braver and more exposed — went on for most of 2016 while I was on the road promoting my last release, ADIEU

From there, I invited Portland-based piano genius (and T-Pain muse) GLASYS to come on board to build out the key parts and a few months later we locked ourselves in The Hallowed Halls with Justin Phelps (Amanda PalmerDresden DollsDead Kennedys) and Mike Blackburn (The Wild WarScars on 45Dungen) until My Movie Star was complete. Jay Mohr, who is also a writer on 2 of the songs, gets credit for inspiring the album as a whole.

My Movie Star will be released on October 12th, 2018 as a 2-disc set, alongside an album of all the songs reimagined by The Dandy Warhols, Tiffany (“I Think We’re Alone Now”), Jarryd James, Rian Lewis (Gorillaz, Chromeo), DoublePlusGood, Stose and many more of my favorite bands, artists and musical heroes.

LOOK: Logan Lynn and Jay Mohr Interview in Current Issue of The Hype Magazine (PHOTOS + VIDEO)

A67784AD-BA85-48E9-BF78-EEE234A17158

New interview with me and Jay Mohr in the current issue of The Hype Magazine, out this week! We talk all things “My Movie Star”, Portland, Portugal. The Man, and more.

Check out the online version HERE, or keep reading below for the transcript and videos.

From The Hype Magazine: (2/26/2018)

Jay Mohr & Logan Lynn On “My Movie Star,” Portland and More

If you are a fan of comedian Jay Mohr’s podcast Mohr Stories, then you ought to be very aware of Portland, Oregon-based musician Logan Lynn. If not a Mohrrior, then you may know Logan Lynn from his prolific solo career — he had landed a record deal via The Dandy Warhols — or as the founder of the Keep Oregon Well campaign. Although Mohr is primarily known for being funny, he has an ear for music and decided to showcase that as a producer for Lynn on My Movie Star.

Uncharacteristic of the times, My Movie Star is not just an album. Rather, it is a multi-media double album paired with a Mohr-produced film, as done in partnership with Lynn and filmmaker Kevin Forrest of Portland Film Works. The musical release was done in collaboration with T-Pain muse GLASYS — who T-Pain is rumored to have discovered via Reddit — and features a mix of Lynn originals, remixes and covers. GLASYS and Mohr aside, musical guests on My Movie Star include the aforementioned Dandy Warhols, Jarryd James, Rian Lewis, and Tiffany. Yes, that Tiffany.

I had the pleasure of doing Q&A with both Mohr — who recently appeared on the Fox hit The Mick — and Lynn, and the results were very entertaining. More on Lynn can be found at www.loganlynnmusic.com, while Mohr can be visited online at www.jaymohr.com.

Thanks for chatting with us about the upcoming release of My Movie Star. How did this record come about?

Logan Lynn: Well, this year marks 20 years since my first album was released and I have been in a process of getting down to the essence of what I’m actually trying to do, in life and in music, ever since. When Jay and I met, I had just finished making my last album, Adieu, and was getting ready to release it. He was one of the first people to ever hear those songs and gave me the most thoughtful, tender, honest feedback. He also wrote one of the first reviews for that record and I think the seed was planted there. I remember feeling like someone had finally really seen and heard me and what I was doing with my songs…or, at least, was trying to do.

Jay Mohr: Tough question for me personally, as I can’t speak for Logan’s motivation or mindset. However, while listening to Adieu, during the song “Break Me Down,” the line “Love me and I’ll kill it with you in time” hit me between the eyes. I thought, “There! There’s the real guy!” I felt like Read the rest of this entry »

WATCH: Teaser Trailer for Accidental Bear’s Queer Music Summer Benefit Tour Documentary (VIDEO)

Logan Lynn LIVE in Portland - Mississippi Studios - July 11th 2013 - Photo by Wayne Bund Photography

A lovely and talented filmmaker and performance artist named Run Shayo has been flying all over the United States with us every step of the way this summer for our tour, capturing the good moments (and the ugly ones) as we go. He is making a documentary about our experience together on this queer music tour and it is going to be J.U.I.C.Y. when it’s all said and done. I trust this man’s vision wholeheartedly, and if you don’t already know his work, you soon will.

We are flying to New York City tonight for the grand finale at Webster Hall this Friday night. See you there!

Here’s a teaser trailer for the tour (and the film) by Run Shayo:

Logan Lynn Summer Tour Stories, Parts 1 and 2: San Francisco and Los Angeles! (PHOTOS)

Logan Lynn LIVE at Beatbox in San Francisco (2013)

I’m back in Portland for a few days midway through our summer tour and figured I would tell you things about the first leg of shows!

The tour kicked-off in San Francisco at Beatbox on Friday night and was great. I heard after the show that one of my all-time musical heroes Bob Mould had asked the tour organizer the day before what time I was performing and then he came to the show! So awesome.

Of course, this also means that Bob got to see me knock both of my bottles of water off of a stool and onto the stage during a song, where they began pouring out into a rat’s nest of wires surrounding me. In an act of quick-thinking, fancy footwork, I repurposed my green LaCoste face towels (which Gino and I use to keep the sweat from blinding us on stage) and used one foot to mop it up while I sang the opening of our next song. It was pretty special. Here’s to not getting publicly electrocuted on stage in SF!

Here are some photos from that show:

Thank you to Gino Mari and Michael Brillig for designing my live show and to Gino especially for being on the road with me and getting me from point A to point B every step of the way!

We’ll be in Portland on Thursday, Seattle on Sunday, and the grand finale in New York City on July 19th! See you again soon, California.
